Body hair has troubled women for several centuries now. The more we try to run away from these, the harder we are chased. No amount of traditional hair removal methods have succeeded in getting us rid of the bushes we’ve been chased by for life.

Having said that, it is a notable mention that body hair is natural, and removing them should be one’s personal choice and not an imposed decision. Several strong women across the world have been breaking the stereotypes by owning these so-called flaws.

Body hair has been a taboo subject for a long time and women have been influenced to hide the fact of their existence from time immemorial. Choosing to get rid of the body hair and choosing to own and flaunt them are both one’s personal choices to make and should not be judged in whatsoever conditions.

Several women across the world have been wanting to get rid of their body hair and still struggling to find a solution for the same. In this article, we are going to discuss the various old traditional ways of body hair removal and the reasons behind their failure. We shall also be discussing laser hair removal, which has surfaced as a new method to remove body hair.

Traditional methods to remove hair:

Waxing:

Waxing is an age-old method of removing hair. The pros of this method are that it pulls out hair from its very root and also removes the dead skin covering the surface. It also gives silky smooth skin and it is believed that hair that grows back, tends to be softer than before.

The cons of this method include rashes. Waxing does not suit people with sensitive skin and often ends up in small acne and rashes. Also, it makes the skin loose and more prone to wrinkles. Experts usually suggest a patch test before using this method. Waxing is considered the most painful method of removing hair which stands as a con for it.

Shaving:

Shaving involves the use of razors for removing the body hair. As much as it is a quick method, it is also safe to use. The pros of shaving include it being one of the most painless options of hair removal available to date. The process does not require much time and not much of an apparatus is required.

The cons of shaving are that it often leads to ingrown hair and a lot of people do believe that once you shave your hair, they grow back thicker than before. Also, shaving can cause rashes on the skin. The hair that grows back is anything but soft and when it is in its growing stage, it can cause a lot of rashes and itching.

Hair Removal Creams:

Hair Removal Creams are one of the easiest ways to remove hair. All you need to do is wet the part of skin you want to remove hair from. Apply cream on it and let it wait for at least 15 minutes. Once the wait is over, remove the cream with the help of the tool available (the opposite side of the applicator).

The pros of hair removal cream are that this method is even safer than shaving creams since there is nothing to cause cuts on the skin. Also, the method is quick and generally does not require much stuff. The cons of this method are the stinky odor it leaves on application. Also, since there are loads of chemicals in the cream, which can damage the skin and most experts suggest a patch test before its use.

Sugaring:

In this method, you’re supposed to heat sugar and lemon juice together and bring them to a paste-like consistency. Once the paste comes to room temperature, apply it on your skin and let it get a grip on your hair. Wait for a few seconds and pull it off just like you would pull off a wax strip. The pros of this method are that it isn’t very harmful and suits most skin types since it is natural.

A major drawback that comes with sugaring is that it involves a lot of preparation and also takes some time. Also, it does leave some patches of hair behind sometimes.

The laser hair removal technique is one of the safest techniques of hair removal that have been invented to date. As a part of it, a motion is applied in the area of the skin from where hair has to be removed. Then a laser beam is directed on it that traces the entire length of the skin. It not only removes the hair but also disables the hair follicles of the skin from producing new hair.

What are the pros of laser hair removal?

The laser hair removal technique is popularising these days especially after several celebrities have gone on records to talk about it. Laser hair removal has a long-lasting effect on the skin. The hair that grows back tends to be softer than before. Also, since the hair is removed from its roots, the skin is left silky and smooth, unlike the other methods.

What are the cons of laser hair removal?

As the name suggests, laser hair removal is a technique that uses laser beams to remove hair. The laser can cause irreparable damage to the skin. Another factor that holds back customers from getting laser hair removal is the fact that laser hair removal demands several sittings and each sitting costs a fortune. Being quite costly, not everyone can afford it.

Conclusion:

There are several methods that are practiced to remove hair from the body. Some of these are sugaring, waxing, shaving, creams, etc.  Sugaring is natural but involves a lot of preparation. Waxing comes with a lot of pain but is very effective. Shaving is painless but often causes rashes. Creams are easy to use and painless but contain a lot of harmful chemicals. Laser hair removal is very effective but is very costly and can even end up damaging the skin. Each of these techniques can be well-suited for a few people but they can’t obviously be applied to everyone as their effect may vary from person to person. So, you can try the methods that are prescribed here and choose the one that’s most suitable to you as a long-term method.
